DDX is a Battleship

Strategypage has an interesting article titled "DD(X) Pricing Itself Out of the Market". The article describes the high price of America's newest "destroyer", which at 14,000 tons is actually larger than present day cruisers, and the size of the first generation of battleships, or pre-dreadnought built over a century ago. According to the article a better buy would be the much cheaper Littoral Combat Ship ($250 million each).
Interestingly, DefenseNews describes the resent visit of a Dutch Aegis frigate to the US. The Tromp is roughly half the price ($488 million) of our latest Burke class Aegis destroyers.
