I Support the Troops

These days it seems politically correct to say “I support the troops”. If so, I’m glad to conform, to go with the flow, and refuse to fight against the tide. In another, sadder time it may have been acceptable to call an American soldier “baby killer”, “Nazi”, or to spit upon them in public. Thankfully it is not so these days, so I gladly join the crowd.

Everywhere I look now there are banners and bumper stickers on every car, as well as posters in the store fronts and bold letters on billboards. These are sober but happy times and rightly so for those who sacrifice life and limb to keep our country free. You don’t need a martial heritage to support the troops. You just have to be an American. As had been said, it’s not the reporter or the politician who gives us freedom, but the American Soldier. Love him or hate him, the fact remains the same.

So sleep well tonight war protestor and anti-American pundit. The next time you use your cell phone, or internet access, or write a letter to the editor to bear your angst, pray you will always have the freedom to do so. Because it will be thanks to the American Soldier who stands constant watch over us all, supporter and critic alike.
