Pacific Commander Downplays China Threat

From the Navy Times:

Despite an increasing U.S. focus on China as a potential military competitor, Adm. William Fallon, chief of U.S. Pacific Command, said “there is tremendous potential for good” in the U.S.-China relationship, and said a strategic rivalry between the two nations is avoidable...

He said China’s forces, though numerous and modernizing, are “not anywhere near” a serious threat to the United States.
“They have a massive-sized force, but I do not believe that force is well-equipped,” he said.
Fallon did call China’s purchases of high-tech weaponry, mostly from Russia, worrisome.

I agree, but we do need to keep one eye focused eastward. Lets finish the War on Terror and then worry about China.
