Mercenaries to Darfur

This is from the Boston Globe:

...according to J. Cofer Black, vice chairman of the private security firm Blackwater, there is another option that ought to be on the table: an organization that could commit significant resources and expertise to bolster the African Union peacekeepers and provide emergency support to their flagging mission.

But Kofi Annan doesn't agree, maybe because its a good idea:

When Kofi Annan was UN undersecretary general for peacekeeping, he explored the option of hiring the South African private military company Executive Outcomes to aid in the Rwandan refugee crisis. He ultimately decided against the option, declaring that ''the world is not yet ready to privatize peace."

I saw a show on the History Channel about Blackwater and modern mercenaries. Seems they were doing a good job bringing peace to African countries until the UN kicked them out and things returned to their anarchic normalcy.
