Sarkozy elected French president

Breaking news from the Drudge Report:

Conservative Nicolas Sarkozy won France's presidential election on
Sunday, beating his Socialist rival Segolene Royal by a comfortable margin and
extending the right's 12-year grip on power.
Within minutes of polls closing,
Royal conceded defeat in a speech to party faithful in the heart of Paris.
"I
hope that the next president of the republic fulfils his role in the service of
all French people," she said.
Forecasts by four pollsters showed Sarkozy, 52,
a hard-line former interior minister, won around 53 percent of the vote in the
second-round ballot and will succeed fellow conservative Jacques Chirac, who was
president for 12 years.
Turnout was predicted at about 85 percent.

This is huge! The sick man of Europe just got a much needed shot in the arm.

Update: Pajamas Media has complete coverage from France.

More-Sarko, as he's known to supporters, is France's Reagan. Since the 1970's most of the world's industrialized nations have turned to conservative reformers as a relief from the excesses of the socialist revolts of the 1960's, which saw a surge in crime, taxes, and broken families. France has been the last holdout, but recent riots by immigrant gangs, some Muslims, other just spoiled radicals, have given Right ideas a new birth in the nation.

Oxy-moron Alert-Headline from CNN:

Conceding defeat, socialist Segolene Royal vows to "keep on
fighting."

Good luck with that!
