Standing by the Troops

Here's a special message from Gold Star Mom Debbie Lee:

Move America Forward, the nation's largest pro-troop organization, has put together an effort to send the largest number of care packages to U.S. troops in history. Between now and the 4th of July we are asking Americans to sponsor care packages that we will send to our heroic military men and women who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. We need you to join us by sponsoring care packages and helping us reach this historic goal.

** SPONSOR A CARE PACKAGE - CLICK HERE **

My son gave up his life for this country because he knew that the series of attacks against Americans by Islamic jihadists/terrorists had to be stopped. Our country could no longer look the other way and pretend that there wasn't an enemy that was determined to destroy our nation. So Marc volunteered to serve his nation, as an elite Navy Seal, and he and so many others joined our military knowing that they might have to sacrifice their own lives for the freedoms of our nation, for you, for me.

The United States of America is a great nation thanks in large part to all those in uniform who have shed blood and given their lives to ensure that this remains the shining city on a hill that President Ronald Reagan once spoke of -- a land of freedom, of liberty, of decency, of opportunity.
Let's use this day to show our military men and women currently serving overseas how much we appreciate them. Please, join me in this wonderful effort to send the largest shipment of care packages in history to our troops.

For They Who Sacrifice

On this Memorial Day, here's to all those who stand guard through terrible ordeals far from home, just so we can sleep safely in our beds. From an article I wrote a while back title Perseverance in War:

By perseverance, the tiny Greek cities withstood the continents spanning Persian Empire, to lay the foundations of Western Civilization. Even after Athens itself was occupied and torched the Greeks stood firm, managing to defeat the Persian fleet at Salamis, cutting off the invader’s overwhelming army from naval support.

Later the Romans persevered against Carthage’s greatest general, Hannibal, even after losing 50,000 legionnaires at Cannae. Earlier, an even greater force of 80,000 Roman sailors was lost at sea in a storm. The city stood firm against her enemies despite the numerous disasters she faced, saving Greco-Judean culture from Asian mysticism.

After the Fall of Rome in 410 AD, the torch passed to Byzantium as Defenders of the West. For a thousand years the City on the Golden Horn withstood waves of barbarians including Huns, Muslims, and Vikings, that overwhelmed the rest of the world, thus buying time for the youthful German kingdoms in Europe to create the Modern World.

By perseverance, the least of the new kingdoms, England, outfought more powerful land powers, including Spain, the Dutch, and France, to become Mistress of the Seas. Rather than a European dictatorship controlling the world’s sea-lanes, a benevolent democracy spread its culture of free trade and human rights around the world.

George Washington, leading the newborn American colonies, had the audacity to defy this great superpower when they no longer were treated as Englishmen. Without a navy and only a rag-tag militia for an army, Washington kept his forces in being for 13 years, until the British wearied of the conflict and granted her colonies freedom.

In 1863, Ulysses S. Grant suffered derision from his fellow generals, the press, and from Washington, not to mention the Confederate enemy besieged at Vicksburg. After enduring months of defeat and criticism, he persevered to conquer the city, thus splitting the Confederacy in two and assuring Union victory in the Civil War.

Winston Churchill and his beleaguered nation persevered alone after the Fall of France in 1940, before the onslaught of the German Luftwaffe. Though the world gave the tiny island little hope to survive, England persevered to stand beside Russia and America in the final defeat of the Axis powers, thus saving democracy from a new barbarism.

Ronald Reagan ignored those of his fellow countrymen who resigned to live with communism, and declared its demise in his lifetime. Reagan was right, and the critics were wrong. Thus was democracy given a new chance that it almost lost in the aftermath of World War 2.

On and on the story goes, how men and women defied the odds and stood up to bullies and critics to save nations and transform societies. They endured pain and hunger in the field with their troops, suffered ostracizing from their peers and abandoned by friends, made laughing stocks in the media, and endured the threats of enemies. They persevered through all this to give us all a better world.

A Call for Help

From Move America Forward:

"On Friday we put out a call to action for pro-troop supporters to help
us send a massive shipment of Gatorade/Beef Jerky care packages to our
troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

We have between 150,000 - 200,000 troops currently serving in these
theaters, and temperatures in Iraq have already begun to climb to the
mid-to-upper 90 degree range.

The problem: thus far only 64 people have sponsored a care package for
our troops. That's not enough. We need THOUSANDS of you to pitch in
and make sure our troops are taken care of.

So please take action now and sponsor a care package. You can use this
link here
to place your order."

Taking Money From Hollywood

Tinsel Town anti-war firms, which average about $5 million to make, are tanking at the box office. Inexpensive documentaries made by filmmakers actually in the warzone are far cheaper and praise the sacrifices of our troops. Here's what we all can do to help:

Are you willing to take on Hollywood and do something about the
ongoing flood of anti-war propaganda films? If you are, here is what you can
do:
If you can afford to,
buy a DVD .
If you are a blogger, blog about the movie.
If you are a radio show
host, talk about the movie.
If you listen to local talk shows, call up and
tell the screener/producer about the movie. (I already do a lot of shows,
but there is no such thing as too many shows.)
If you are a blog reader,
email your favorite bloggers about the movie. Or, email your favorite
columnist/reporter about the movie.
My advertising budget is $0. We've
already ran out of money twice while making the movie.I depend on the
kindness of others to help promote the movie .I am
asking for your help. I can make a movie, but it takes people like you to
spread the word so people know it exists.

Some of these DVDs look pretty good!

Iraq Made America Safer

Celebrating 5 years of taking down the murderous regime of Saddam Hussein, and exporting democracy to the Arabs, here is part of a newsletter from Melanie Morgan at Move America Forward:

Many people in the news media and among the political
elite
have made the mistake of critizing the missions of our troops and
lamenting
about the costs of the war effort, instead of realizing that
the heroic and
commendable efforts of our troops have helped deal a
striking blow to
Islamic terrorists worldwide.

Rather than sitting back on the defensive,
waiting to be struck again,
our nation struck back against the network of
Islamic terrorists who
had launched attack after attack against the U.S. and
our allies for over
25 years - culminating in the horrific attacks on
September 11, 2001.

It is not by accident that the United States has not
been struck here
at home by Islamic terrorists since that time. It is
precisely because
the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces,
in
conjunction with efforts by the FBI and CIA and various law enforcement
agencies, have waged a full-frontal assault on those who seek to bring our
nation harm.

Thank God for the troops and groups like MAF, who continue to support the War on Terror, and protect Freedom here at home.

Former Skeptics Say Army Not Broken

Some good news from the ongoing War on Terror via Fox News:

A year ago, some military experts were comparing the Army of 2007
with the army of a generation ago, at the end of the Vietnam War, when it was
considered "broken" due to morale problems and an exodus of the "best and the
brightest" soldiers from service.
(Army Maj. Gen. Bob) Scales said he didn’t
take into account that, unlike Vietnam, this Army is sending soldiers to fight
as a unit — not as individuals. He also neglected the "Band of Brothers"
phenomenon — the feeling of responsibility to fellow soldiers that prompts
members of service to re-enlist.
"The soldiers go back to the theater of war
as units," Scales said. "They are bonded together, they know each other, they
don't have to fight as an army of strangers.
"I was wrong a year ago when I
forecast the imminent collapse of the Army. I relied a little bit too much on
the data and not enough on the intangibles."

This is something I've noticed all along-that the Army is not broken but becoming battle hardened. The Liberal dominated Media would much prefer we look on the troops as victims of an "unjust war", rather than the true heroes they are.

Attacks on Recruiting Centers Escalate

This is via the Gathering of Eagles website:

Antiwar activists in Pittsburgh are planning an “anniversary”
protest on March 19th outside the military recruiting office. What makes
this one even more heinous is that they are
actually bringing a
“movable cage”
that they plan to confine the recruiters
in.

"On Wednesday, March 19, POG will be holding a torch-lit
march to a modern day castle of abominations—our local military recruiting
station. If the station remains open, we intend to evict it and everything
inside of it, occupy the location, and transform it into something useful for
the community. We’ll also be bringing a movable cage in which to confine
military recruiters until they no longer pose a danger to our friends and
neighbors."

Never mind that this is all highly illegal.

This is getting a little scary. Let's not forget these recruiting stations are representative to the Federal Government. The so-called dictator Bush has been very easy on the antiwar protesters, despite the fact that these Leftist organizations are helping to sustain the terrorists oppression of the Middle East and continued bombing threats against the West. As Stalin once likened liberals, Code Pinkers are the "Useful Idiots" of Radical Islam.

Why They Fight

Here is the real story of Iraq, and what the protesters war against when they slander our troops:

A two-year-old Iraqi girl returned to Haditha March 7 after
undergoing open-heart surgery at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at
Vanderbilt University.
Ala Thabit Fattah, the girl’s father, and several
family members traveled with Marines to Baghdad International Airport to meet
Amenah, who departed Iraq Jan. 22 with his wife.
“I am very happy. I was very
worried that my daughter would not come home alive,” Fattah said. “I am very
grateful for the great treatment the American people gave to my family.”
The
family then flew to Al Asad Airbase in Al Anbar Province, where they boarded an
MV-22 Osprey for the final leg of the voyage to Haditha.
Back home, the
family served a dinner in her honor.
“I’ve got four children, two boys and
two girls myself; I was very happy to see a father, mother and child reunite,”
said Maj. Kevin Jarrard, Company L’s commanding officer and the architect behind
the medical effort.

Here is what the Code Pinkers and others attack when they defame our recruiting centers: the only hope many poor countries have, that the US Military will step in and save them from dictators, and give freedom a fighting chance.

Thanks to Blogs for Victory for this story.

The Berkeley Insurrection

Here is part of an email sent to my by Move America Forward's Melanie Morgan:

As investigators continue their efforts to find out who bombed
the Times Square military recruiting center, we have come across more evidence
of the sheer hubris of anti-military radicals in the United States.

In
Berkeley, California, activists posted an update on their efforts to harass the
U.S. Marine Corps until they close up their recruiting office and leave town.

In an absolutely disgusting maneuver, Berkeley City Council members
Linda Maio and Max Anderson joined the harassment campaign and urged protesters
to keep up their efforts to "impede" the work of our troops. Here you have
American elected officials encouraging insurrection against our military men and
women here in America.

The word "insurrection" stood out to me since the US Marine center, a representative arm of the federal government, is being constantly harassed by a liberal lynch mob. This seems little different to me than the Whiskey Rebellion during George Washington's administration, when the Father of Our Country was forced to take the field against those who refused to obey the law of the land. How long must we see our God given rights flaunted like this before our government acts against these self-styled protesters, who seek to discredit those who defends and protect the freedoms they take advantage of?

Help Eddie Ryan

This link concerning one of our brave and selfless veterans was sent to me by John Burtis:

Marine Sniper, Sgt Eddie Ryan was shot twice in the head. Our
prayers were heard, and this brave Marine defied all doctors' predictions and
lived. In order for Eddie to live at home with his family, the Ryan's house
requires extensive renovation to accommodate him, his wheelchair and the care he
will need at home. Please assist with your financial contributions to help
Eddie's family meet the overwhelming cost of making their house ready to bring
their son home.

Hope you can help! Please check out the link to show your support.

DeMint, Others Introduce "Semper Fi Act"

The SC Senator and his colleagues are serious about supporting the troops:

Today, U.S. Senators Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina), Saxby Chambliss
(R-Georgia), Tom Coburn, M.D. (R-Oklahoma), John Cornyn (R-Texas), James Inhofe
(R-Oklahoma), and David Vitter (R-Louisiana) introduced the Semper Fi Act of
2008. The bill would rescind over $2 million in hidden earmarks for Berkeley,
California in the 2008 Omnibus Appropriations bill, and transfer the funds to
the Marine Corps. U.S. Congressman John Campbell (R-California) is introducing a
companion bill in the House of Representatives. Last week, the City Council of
Berkeley voted to oust Marine Corps recruiters from their downtown office,
saying the Marines were “uninvited and unwelcome intruders.” Berkeley officials
also voted to give the radical protest group Code Pink space outside the
recruitment office and urged them to “impede, passively or actively” the work of
Marine Corps recruiters.

Declares DeMint "Berkeley needs to learn that their actions have consequences. Patriotic American taxpayers won’t sit quietly while Berkeley insults our brave Marines and tries to run them out of town."

DeMint goes after Berkeley Marine Bashers

Updates below.

Code Pink and their radical antiwar supporters have gone too far for this Senator from South Carolina, Jim DeMint:

DeMint was angered after learning that the Berkeley City Council
voted this week to tell the U.S. Marine Corps to remove its recruiting station
from the city's downtown.
"This is a slap in the face to all brave service
men and women and their families," DeMint said in a prepared statement. "The
First Amendment gives the City of Berkeley the right to be idiotic, but from now
on they should do it with their own money."
"If the city can’t show respect
for the Marines that have fought, bled and died for their freedom, Berkeley
should not be receiving special taxpayer-funded handouts," he added.

Maybe its time for a Surge into Berkeley to root out all these anti American forces. Better yet, perhaps we should consider a total withdrawal from the state, and see how well they do against China, Mexico, and the terrorists on their own!
I kid of course, but it is disgusting that these people bash our selfless fighting forces at the taxpayers' expense.

Update-Sign the Petition to the City of Berkeley at Move America Forward:

It is shameful for you to attack our military men and women who
nobly and bravely serve this nation to protect our security and defend our
freedoms and liberties. Those liberties include the right to Freedom of Speech,
which you seem to believe should not be afforded to the members of the United
States Marine Corps and service personnel in other branches of the Armed
Forces.

Petraeus Art on Ebay

This is pretty cool, and only $250! Here's the description:

To honor my son's service in Iraq, I am offering a series of original works depicting the heroic efforts of our soldiers in harm's way. All works will be offered as signed and numbered limited edition giclee prints on canvas, and as slightly smaller open editions on heavy art stock paper. I am donating 20% of the proceeds of all of these works to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, managed by the Intrepid Museum.

Hoping the owner doesn't mind me using the partial photo of the art for the extra publicity, but I will remove it on request.

Remembering the Troops This Christmas

And their many sacrifices:

Write or call your Congressman and plead with them to fully fund the war and let the troops finish their mission. Sometimes, with all the comforts of home, we may forget why they fight. Thank God that our brave men and women in uniform know why they are in the Middle East today:

Democrats Seen Abandoning the Troops

I don't think they will, but it is a sad spectacle as a once great party is placating the radical Left over vital supplies for the US Armed Forces. From the Washington Times:

Despite the incredible progress made by our military — which has opened the door for real and sustainable political progress in Iraq — the Democratic leadership continues to insist that we de-fund the war and bring the troops home no matter what. Beholden to entrenched and noisy anti-war interest groups, the Democrat leadership in Washington seems willing to cut-off much needed funding, placing our brave troops in harms way...

In short, for the sake of placating MoveOn.org and other radical anti-war groups, the Democratic leadership is willing to lay off thousands of employees in America and under cut the incredible success of our troops in Iraq.

Sad, especially at Christmas time. While we here in the states are spending the Holidays with our loved ones, these selfless men and women are fighting and dying to keep us safe and free. Victory will still be their's however, but it could be counted as the Dem's success as well, if only they will release the necessary funds without precondition.

Freedom's Watch Thanks the Troops!

As do we all!
