Cutting the Military Makes it Better
I agree, to an extent. From OpinionJournal :
Parachuting in ever-larger bags of cash seems to be Congress's solution to just about every problem. But what happens when the problem is that all those excess dollars are getting in the way? That's the case for more than a few military programs, and this week the Senate will likely give us an answer on whether it would like to do anything about it.
For example:
A good example of losing sight of the original mission and instead focusing on too many new gadgets is the experimental Multi-Mission Surface Combatant ship, otherwise known as the DD(X). It was originally estimated to cost about $1 billion a ship. Now estimates top $3 billion, and with each increase the Navy is able to build fewer of them. One reason for the skyrocketing cost is the ship is being filled with technology that has yet to "mature," so engineers constantly have to go back to the drawing board.
