Charleston is Ground Zero for MRAP

MRAP stand for Mine-Resistant, Armor Protected. Article is from James Crawley at WCBD Channel 2:

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- This is Ground Zero for MRAP. Two
companies here employ more than 1,500 workers producing the military’s latest
defense against the dreaded improvised explosive devices that have killed more
than 1,800 American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The first and largest
manufacturer of MRAPs is Force Protection Inc., located in suburban Ladson.
Another local firm, Protected Vehicles Inc., was founded in 2005 at the
former naval shipyard in North Charleston by a former Force Protection
executive.
They are competing or collaborating with defense conglomerates,
such as General Dynamics, Textron and BAE, to build thousands of the
mine-resistant vehicles as fast as possible.
All MRAPs, whether built locally
or elsewhere, are shipped to Charleston for installation of radios and computers
by the Navy’s electronics command, also located in North Charleston. And, all
vehicles are shipped overseas through the city’s military port or Air Force
base.

This is amazing-Bought, Built ,and Shipped from one city! Now that's Yankee efficiency.

Here are the website of both companies:
