Battleships versus the Pirates

Just found this on the Ares Blog:

A Dutch navy warship, HNLMS Evertsen (F 805), is presently busy
escorting one of the world's most luxurious cruise liners through allegedly
pirate-infested waters off Somalia...The Evertsen, a 6,200-ton air defense and
command frigate deployed in the area to protect food shipments run by the World
Food Program, happened to be on standby for a few days while awaiting the next
WFP ship to be escorted, says the Dutch defense ministry in The Hague.

Now for the question of the day:

But is this a role for a surface combatant designed and built for high-intensity
sea battles? Is this a role for any naval ship?

See? Its not just me!
